mais ils ne sont pas d’accord sur la manière de pratiquer leur religion.
Pendant très longtemps,
les catholiques et les protestants se sont fait la guerre.
Au Moyen Age, les habitants de Mauguio étaient protestants.
Les protestants ont construit une église.
Une église protestante s’appelle un temple.
Un jour, le roi de France catholique décida :
- de faire démolir ce temple protestant,
- de chasser les protestants de Mauguio.
Ce n’est que plusieurs années après,
qu’un nouveau temple est construit dans le village.

The Protestant Church
During the Wars of Religion in the 16th century, there were only about twenty Catholics left in the town. Following the organisation of the resistance, Mauguio became a real Protestant stronghold. "Heresy" was declared a common law crime by royal edicts. To assert their control, the Protestants built their first church in 1583, located between rue Baudin and rue Diderot.
However, in 1685, the revocation of the Edict of Nantes forced the Protestants to leave the village. With the departure of the rich Protestant merchants, Mauguio weakened and a slow decline began.
The flourishing economic situation of the 19th century allowed the reconstruction of a new church on this site in 1812.
